Prof. Dr. Simber ATAY

She was born in Gaziantep.

She graduated from Ege University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Cinema-TV Department (1976-1980).

Undergraduate thesis: "Kemal Sunal Comedy" (1980). Master Thesis: "Early Photography and Ottoman Photographers" (1983); Her Ph.D. Thesis is "Approaches in Turkish Film Criticism" (1990).

She is still the Head of the Department of Photography at Dokuz Eylul University Fine Arts Faculty and teaches at DEU, GSF and GSE.

She taught at Anadolu University Faculty of Communication Sciences between 2006-2011.

Research Interests: Theories of Photography, Cyber Culture, Postmodern Cinema, Philosophy of Distance Education.

Courses: Theories of Photography I-II (Bachelor), Cyber Culture and Visual Arts (Master's), Intertextuality and Visual Arts I-II (Competence in Art), Post-Truth Era and the Art of Photography (PhD), Postmodernism and Art of Cinema (PhD) ).

Associate Professor Dr Burcu BÖCEKLER

She was born in 1980 in Izmir. She completed her undergraduate studies in Ege University Art History Department, her master's degree in Dokuz Eylül University Photography Department, and her PhD in Ege University Art History Department. Since 2009, she has been working as a lecturer at Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Art and Design, Photography and Video Department. She continues her studies in the fields of alternative photographic printing techniques such as cyanotype, van dyke brown, gum bichromate, history of photography, photography theory and analog photography. In 2014 and 2016, she participated in the international photography conference Helsinki Photomedia held at Aolto University with her papers. In 2017, she opened her personal exhibition titled “Panoramic Traces” at the Lomography Embassy Store in Galata, Istanbul. She has participated in international photography festivals with her photographs: “Istanbul Blue” at FotoIstanbul in 2017, “Silent Blue” at the 9th BursaFotoFest in 2019, and “A Box of Found Glass Following the Negative” exhibition at the 10th BursaPhotoFest in 2020. Her series "Istanbul Blue" was published in the international art design magazine "212 Magazine" and was exhibited at the Art Gallery of the Art History Department of the University of Amsterdam in 2019. She held cyanotype and analog photography workshops at Fotoistanbul, 212 Photography Festival, Fkare'08 Photography Festival, Özyeğin University Photography Days and Amsterdam University in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Doç. Dr. Suzan ORHAN

She was born in Artvin Ardanuç in 1971. She graduated from Ege University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism in 1995. She completed her master's degree in Dokuz Eylül University, Fine Arts Institute, Photography Department, She completed her thesis in 2004 with her thesis titled “Construction of Meaning in Early 20th.Century American Straight Photography”. She completed her doctorate in the Cinema and Television Department of the same institute in 2011 with her thesis titled “Photographic Representation and Aestheticization of War in Contemporary Photography”.

Her published articles on photography include: Great (!) America in Stieglitz's Photographs, Aestheticization of Reality in the Photographic Record of War, Photo-Noir Revealed in Weegee's Photographs, Man's Black Spot of War, Stanley Greene's Traces in War Photographs, Significant Absence / Significant Absence, Photographic Image of the Contemporary Megacity and Its Periphery, Use of Stock-Image in Contemporary Photography, and Street Photography as a Visual Aesthetic Document of Social Change.

The papers she presented at scientific meetings are as follows: New Wars and Contemporary War Photography Aesthetics, New Wars and New War Photography, From Reality to Fiction, From Fiction to Market: The Productions of Contemporary Photographers in the Field of Visual Communication Design and Inheritance from the Bauhaus School to Contemporary Photography: A New Vision.

She works in the street, documentary, portrait and still life fields of photography. She participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad, as well as solo photography exhibitions called Today (2008), Dead-Nature (2014), Real (2015), Refugees (2015), Street Between (2018) and Inside Out Street (2020). . Since 2012, she has been working as a faculty member at Sakarya University, Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Visual Communication Design Department.
